Since its establishment in 1958 Honka has sold nearly 60,000 log structures to 36 countries around the world. In 1999, its sales revenues reached 80 MUSD. Honka has subsidiaries in South Korea, Germany, Japan, France, and since 1995, the United States, as well as representatives in 26 countries around the world. Products designed, manufactured and sold by Honka include log home primary residences, vacation homes, commercial buildings, and other large log structures such as hotels, churches, country clubs, as well as smaller products such as saunas and gazebos. Honka has five state of the art manufacturing facilities, all located in Finland.

Custom Designs

Original and connected to nature:
A large majority of HONKA's homes are custom-designed homes from a clean sheet of paper, made exactly to an individual customer's desired specifications. Customers can either use their own architect and bring in their own floor plan, or they can work with an authorized Honka dealer and design engineer to fulfill their dream project.

Unique room climate
In contrast to other building materials, wood "breathes." This means that it is open for diffusion in both directions, because billions of tiny cells ensure there is an on-going renewal of the air molecules in the inner room. At the same time, the surface temperature of wooden elements in the inner rooms of the building is always similar to the corresponding room air temperature and, therefore, always pleasant for the people living there. The log walls regulate humidity by absorbing moisture and discharging it again when the outer conditions change. The electrostatic properties of wood mean that it does not get charged up with static electricity causing minimal dust to be whirled around in the rooms. This is appreciated particularly by people suffering from allergies.

Material

Finnish pine ideal for log house construction

For its log homes, HONKA uses only wood from the highly resistant Nordic pine. The extreme growth conditions in Finland force the pines to grow slowly with a reduced moisture balance. The narrow-ringed wood is extremely resistant with excellent dimensional stability. Compared to pine wood from more southern regions, the Nordic pine also has a better thermal insulation value.

Absolutely impervious

The special profiles of the round logs mean that the joints are absolutely solid. Even after many decades, the walls are just as solid as on the first day.

Log walls

The rectangular logs are also fitted with exact, tight-fitting wedge profiles. This allows heating energy to remain inside your HONKA log home.

The use of computers in log house production not only makes beam and component cutting more rational and therefore also more economical but also more versatile and flexible. No matter which personal touch you want to give your log house, we will do all we can to put your individual ideas and wishes into effect.

Erection and assembly

Simple, quick and clean

The beams arrive at the building site in weather-proof packaging and numbered to plan. The whole consignment was checked before transport to ensure that everything fits right down to the last millimetre. Now the building can begin! Beam for beam, your log house grows quickly in size. Cut-outs and part codes are monitored exactly, at low price and fault-free thanks to computerised production programs. This means that troublefree erection is already pre-programmed in the factory. Now the big moment has arrived: in next-to-no-time, the roof is on and you can move in. Surely that's reason enough to give a super house-warming party for your friends and acquaintances! Depending on your own skills, financial situation and personal "builder ambitions", you can choose whether we proceed with the entire erection and assembly process, or whether you want to get involved yourself and reduce the building costs by your own contribution. The simple erection process gives you plenty of scope for making your own contribution.
